Bond set for Wheeling man charged with 7th DUI
Bond was set at $200,000 Wednesday for a Wheeling man charged with his seventh DUI.
Wheeling police charged Arturo Carbajal, 33, with aggravated drunken driving and other offenses, including failure to reduce speed and leaving the scene of an accident, following a crash early Tuesday in the area of Milwaukee Avenue and Apple Drive in Wheeling.
Carbajal, of the 1300 block of Wheeling Road, fled the scene and was later picked up at a residence in the 500 block of Wimbledon in Prospect Heights, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Shilpa Patel.
Carbajal was sentenced to six years in prison for DUI in 2007 and had been released on parole, Patel said. In 2006, he received two years intensive supervision probation on another DUI, Patel said. He also has four prior misdemeanors for drunken driving, Patel said.
If convicted, Carbajal faces six to 30 years in prison. He next appears in a Rolling Meadows courtroom on Aug. 12.
