Jazz Week in Naperville, Makeshift Prodigy at Metro
So hot it's cool
Naperville Mayor George Pradel has declared it Vocal Jazz Week, as North Central College holds its "Hot Jazz - 6 Cool Nights" festival starting tonight. It features the faculty of the Janice Borla Jazz Camp, starting with Borla herself.
Singers Janice Borla, Jay Clayton and Cathy Segal Garcia perform with trumpeter Art Davis, guitarist John McLean, pianist Dan Haerle, bassist Bob Bowman and drummer Jack Mouse at 8 p.m. today and Saturday, July 17 and 18, at North Central College's Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. Two of the three singers will perform in various combinations Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 20-22, before all eight reunite for the final concert Thursday, July 23. Tickets are $17 for adults, $14 for students and seniors. Five-night passes are available for $68 and $56. Another for the ages
The local group Makeshift Prodigy, with Prospect Heights keyboardist Brandon Fox, returns to the Metro to headline another all-ages show tonight.

Can goes contemporary
The Empty Can Band performs an outdoor show, weather permitting, in the beer garden at O'Brien's in Batavia on Saturday, promising to add some relatively recent material from the likes of Keb Mo, Sister Hazel and the Eagles to their usual classic-rock catalog featuring tunes from Van Morrison, the Rolling Stones and the Band.
