Does Senger have her priorities straight?
I have two concerns related to the June 28 letter from state Rep. Darlene Senger. First, I question this space as the proper forum for elected officials to conduct what amounts to partisan justifications for legislative agendas. This space is better suited for sharing public reaction to stories rather than providing a free and biased soapbox for elected officials.
Second, Ms. Senger's calls for proper funding of the service organizations helping those affected by autism, disabilities, substance abuse, and domestic violence in the community is disingenuous. She is saying, in these tough economic times, to cut noncritical spending rather than that of important, social services programs.
Then, at the same time, she lobbies Governor Quinn for $1.94 million for the DuPage Children's Museum, of which she is a sitting board member. The many area children living in poverty served by worthwhile service organizations couldn't afford to stick their nose in the children's museum.
While Ms. Senger is fighting for millions to go to a debt-ridden, poorly managed playground for well-off children, many stay home wondering how their next meal, medical treatment, or professional counselor can be afforded. It is time for Ms. Senger to put aside her personal, political agenda and serve the needs of the community.
