Teen cyclist still in critical condition after being struck by car

A 13-year-old boy who was struck by a car while biking on a busy Libertyville street Monday remains in critical condition, authorities said.

The unidentified boy was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition immediately following the accident Monday, said Libertyville police Deputy Chief Bob Koval, but was transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital later that day via Flight for Life.

Koval said the accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. in front of the Dairy Dream on Route 176 just west of Butterfield Road.

The accident occurred in the eastbound lane of Route 176, Koval said. The boy was biking in the road when hit by the car, he said.

The driver of the car has not been ticketed or charged with any crime, Koval said.

The accident remains under investigation.
