Home e-waste pickup offered
The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County has an at-home pickup program for residents of its service area through October. The program has diverted 112,013 pounds of computer e-waste from the landfill since it began in 2007. Any SWANCC resident who has front-door access (no apartments or condos) can arrange for a pickup. Residents will pay $25 via credit card to offset program costs, and can recycle six items per pickup. A list of acceptable items is available at swancc.org. No individual item can exceed 50 pounds. Cell phones and calculators can be recycled, but do not count as items. On the scheduled pickup day, items must be placed on the front porch or steps, tagged with provided signage, by 7:30 a.m. To schedule a pickup, swancc.org or (847) 724-9205.
