Armed robbery charged in Craigslist deception

A man responding to a Craigslist advertisement for a massage was instead robbed of $140 say authorities, who charged 29-year-old Craig Jones with armed robbery following an incident they say occurred Friday in Hoffman Estates.

A Cook County judge set bond at $80,000 Monday for Jones, who lives in the 500 block of Heritage in Hoffman Estates, where the incident took place, said assistant state's attorney Shilpa Patel.

The victim went to the apartment where he was ushered inside by a woman, Patel said. Jones then held a knife to the victim's throat and demanded money. The victim later contacted police who arrested Jones, said Patel. Patel had no information on whether the woman had been charged with a crime.

Jones also has a case pending for driving on a suspended or revoked license. If convicted, he faces six to 30 years in prison. He next appears in court on Aug. 7.
