White House pets
Learn about pets who lived at the White House and in Geneva during a special program at 7 p.m. Monday, July 13 at the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third Street. Using the book "Wackiest White House Pets" and archives from the Geneva History Center, local veterinarians Rebecca Campbell and Julie Kroll will talk about the animals and about the care and feeding of pets. Ice cream at beach
The Batavia Park District is celebrating 40 years of service. On Thursday, July 16, hearkening to 1969, the park district will offer a moonwalk and free "astronaut" ice cream to the first 200 visitors to Hall Quarry Beach, 400 S. Water St. Regular admission prices apply. The beach is open from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Quilt show play
"A Quilter's Tale" will be presented at 6 p.m. Friday, July 17 as part of the Quilt and Textile Show at the Eastside Community Center, Wilson and Van Buren streets, in Batavia. Tickets are $6. Two women are introduced in this tale of traveling the Oregon Trail in 1852: Abigail Scott Duniway, a suffragette and a quilter who took 31 years to complete her only quilt; and Eliza Dibble Sawtell, a traditional wife, mother and master quilter who found fulfillment and satisfaction in every quilt. Polo charity match
The Blackberry Polo Club will have a match at noon Sunday, July 19 to benefit the Oswego Cultural Arts Commission. Tickets are $10 each, or $30 per carload, in advance; $5 additional at the gate. To buy tickets, call (630) 554-3618. There will be a movie star costume contest and door prizes. The club is on Bliss Road south of Main Street in Batavia.
Marines plan golf outing
The Fox Valley Marine Corps League is seeking sponsorships and registration for its annual golf outing at noon Wednesday, Aug. 5 at Tamarack Golf Course, 24032 Royal Worlington Drive, in Naperville. Sponsorships are available from $100 for a hole sponsor to $1,000 for a presenting sponsor. Reservations for golf and dinner cost $95; dinner only is $50.
