BG chamber hosts celebration of art
The Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce will host a Celebration of Art party, 5-7 p.m. July 16, at the Indeck Energy Building, 600 N. Buffalo Grove Road. Six local artists including the chamber's Art Scholarship winner will showcase their art in several different media.
Refreshments will be provided by several local restaurants and entertainment by Arnold Martin Music. Admission is $10 per person with proceeds going to the Chamber Scholarship Fund. Hear about city's new bicycle network
Des Plaines will host an open house July 15 to explain the city's proposed bike network. The 5:30-6:30 p.m. event is in the council chambers at City Hall, 1420 Miner St.
Maps of the proposed bicycle network will be displayed and representatives from the city staff and the city's consultant on this project (TY Lin) will discuss the project and answer questions.
After the open house, there will be a formal engineering committee meeting to discuss the bicycle network design. The general public is invited to attend both the open house and the committee meeting.

Healthcare debate topic of LWV panel
The League of Women Voters of the Palatine and Arlington Heights areas will present a panel of speakers to explain what is wrong with our current health care system.
The program will begin at 7 p.m. July 22, at the Palatine Public Library, 700 N. North Court, Palatine.
Speakers include Jane Hansen, a nurse practitioner, Dr. Hal Snyder and Dr. Anne Scheetz, who will discuss the status of our current system and what changes are being proposed in Congress. Both public option and single payer proposals will be discussed as well as common health care reform myths. This program is free and open to the public. BGHS garage sale to aid choral program
The Buffalo Grove High School Expressions Show Choir will hold a 50-family garage sale, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 17 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. July 18, at Buffalo Grove High School, 1100 W. Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove.
There will also be a bake sale, car wash, New Item area and crafters. This annual event benefits Expressions and all of the Choral Guild students at Buffalo Grove High School.
