Drunken driver causes two accidents, Aurora police say
A 51-year-old man was charged with drunken driving after police said he caused two separate car accidents and flipped his own car in Aurora Saturday afternoon.
Police refused to release the man's name Sunday.
He will face charges of driving under the influence, hit-and-run, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Aurora Police Sgt. Kim Groom said.
In each accident, the man hit two cars, police said. However, only he and one victim were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Groom said.
"In each one, the driver either rear-ended or sideswiped a vehicle," she said. "Thankfully no one was seriously hurt in either accident."
The first accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday along Route 59 between McCoy Drive and New York Street when the man rear-ended two vehicles. After hitting the cars, the driver drove off and traveled less than a quarter mile south on Route 59 and hit two more cars, Groom said.
Southbound Route 59 and eastbound McCoy Drive were shut down for about an hour after the accident.
