Prison for man caught with gun near Obama's home
A Cook County Circuit Court judge has handed down a 5-year prison sentence against a 31-year-old man who had a gun in his luxury car when he was arrested last September outside then-Sen. Barack Obama's South Side home.
Cook County State's Attorney's spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said Judge Nicholas Ford imposed the sentence Friday on Omhari Sengstacke (ahm-HAR'-ee SENG'-Stack).
Sengstacke, the grandson of former Chicago Defender publisher John Sengstacke, was convicted last month of two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Sengstacke, who had a prior criminal record, was arrested after he repeatedly tried to pass security barriers near Obama's home, saying he wanted to talk to Obama about a job. Police found a handgun and a bulletproof vest in Sengstacke's car, but said he hadn't threatened Obama.
