Stream Cat, Cosmonaut headline Arlington Handicap

Defending champion Stream Cat and two-time Arlington Handicap winner Cosmonaut are among a cast of 13 horses entered for Saturday's $200,000 Arlington Handicap.

The Grade III race serves as the final local prep for the Arlington Million and is one of four major stakes that comprise the track's Million Preview Day program.

In addition to the Arlington Handicap, the 12-race card includes the Grade II $300,000 American Derby, the Grade III $200,000 Modesty Handicap, the $200,000 Arlington Sprint and two overnight stakes races - the $50,000 Diamond Ring Stakes and the $50,000 Pink Ribbon Stakes. First post Saturday is 12:15 p.m.

Stream Cat, now conditioned by Patrick Biancone, comes in off a fourth-place run in Hollywood's $100,000 Gallant Man Handicap after previously capturing the Grade III Tokyo City Handicap at Santa Anita Park in March.

In last year's Arlington Handicap, the son of Black Minnaloushe split horses in the stretch and drew off to a 3 3/4-length victory over Cosmonaut. Stream Cat followed his Arlington Handicap score with a sixth-place run in the Arlington Million four weeks later.

• Giant Oak, winner of the $150,000 Arlington Classic in May, has been installed as the 8-5 morning line favorite in the American Derby.

The Grade II race, at a mile and three-sixteenths on the turf, is the second leg of the Mid-America Triple which concludes with the Grade I $400,000 Secretariat Stakes on Aug. 8.

Should Giant Oak go on capture the American Derby and Secretariat Stakes, his owners would earn a $500,000 bonus for becoming the first horse sweep Arlington's Triple since Honor Glide completed the feat in 1997.

• Lewis Lakin's Pure Clan is the highweight of 122 pounds for the Modesty Handicap and likely will head to post as the likely favorite in the field of six fillies and mares..

The Modesty serves as the final local prep for the Grade I $750,000 Beverly D.

• Chamberlain Bridge, winner of his last two starts on turf, will head to post as the likely favorite in the $200,000 Arlington Sprint, a race moved to the turf last year to serve as a prep for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
