Pet carnival at store:
The second annual Luke Laudolff Pet Carnival, featuring adoptions, pet beauty consultations, advice from animal communicators and more, is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Petco, 1885 S. Randall Road, Geneva. It will raise money for Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin. Luke, who died in 2007, was a volunteer for the shelter.
Viking ship displayed:
Have you always wanted to see the largest remaining artifact left from the Columbian Exposition? See the Viking Ship from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday in Good Templar Park, 528 Eastside Drive, Geneva. Friends of the Viking Ship will describe the ship's voyage from Norway to the 1893 Exposition and its subsequent adventures. You'll see the stabilization work that has been done and view the inside of the ship. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for visitors 4-17. For more information, visit vikingship.us.
'Ask a Lawyer':
Free legal advice is available by phone Saturday in Kane County. "Ask a Lawyer Days" is a free program sponsored by the Kane County Bar Association. People can call (630) 762-1900 from 9 a.m. to noon for a consultation with a volunteer attorney. For more information, visitkanecountybar.org.
White House pets:
At 7 p.m. Monday, using the book "Wackiest White House Pets" and archives from the Geneva History Center, learn about pets who lived at the White House and in Geneva. Local veterinarians Rebecca Campbell and Julie Kroll will talk about the care and feeding of pets. The program will end with a pet craft. This program is designed for families with children grades third and older and is sponsored by the Geneva Public Library and the center. Meet in the Community Room at the center, 113 S. Village launches 'finder':
The South Elgin Police Department has launched its own version of "Family Finder," a free, voluntary program in which residents can provide a photo of a loved one who is prone to getting lost, along with contact information for family members. The program is utilized by Elgin Police and other departments and is geared toward providing law enforcement with information that it can immediately share if, for example, a senior with dementia gets lost.
