No one hurt in Villa Park fire
A fire at a Villa Park home displaced its eight residents in the middle of the night but no one was injured, officials said.
Firefighters responded the 100 block of East Maple on the north side of town at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to Lt. Steve Stapleton. Flames were coming out of the second story of the home.
The eight people who had been in the home were already outside when firefighters arrived. Their smoke detectors had been functioning and they escaped unharmed, Stapleton said. A passer-by saw the fire and called 911 for them.
Villa Park firefighters, assisted by Elmhurst, York Center and Addison, had the main body of the fire out in about five minutes, but it took about a half-hour to completely extinguish the rest, according to Stapleton.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Stapleton estimated the home sustained about $100,000 in damage.
