No injuries in small fire at Argonne
No one was injured in a small fire Thursday at Argonne National Laboratory near Lemont.
The fire began about 1:05 p.m. at a cooling tower on the campus that was under construction at the time, according to Steve McGregor, media relations manager.
It was extinguished within 20 minutes with the help of area fire departments.
"It was a minor incident and fortunately there were no injuries," he said.
The tower cools equipment in the Advanced Photon Source that creates X-rays used for research. McGregor said operation of the Advanced Photon Source was not affected by the fire and no hazardous materials were released.
