County preparedness plan noted:

The Lake County Health Department has been acknowledged for its emergency preparedness efforts by the National Association of Counties. Lake County received the group's 2009 Achievement Award for its Medication Distribution Plan, which combines the efforts of the county clerk, division of transportation, townships, municipalities, fire and police departments, medical reserve corps and several residents. The plan would utilize local polling places as points of distribution should the need arise for mass antibiotic distribution during a public health emergency, such as a bioterrorism attack. The award recognizes innovative county government programs and is given in several categories. Call (847) 377-8000 with questions regarding emergency preparedness.
