Deputy chief becomes temporary top cop:
Round Lake Deputy Police Chief Francis Foy has moved up in rank. At a meeting Monday night, Foy was appointed as Round Lake's police chief on a temporary basis. The move at the village board session came after the weekend resignation of Police Chief Cliffton Metaxa, who was appointed to the top job in July 2005. Former Round Lake Mayor Bill Gentes supported Metaxa and cast the tiebreaking village board vote that gave him the job. Gentes lost his re-election bid to James Dietz in April. Dietz said village board members will come up with a list of qualifications they want in a new top cop as part of a nationwide search.
