Woman dies, daughter hurt after getting hit by truck while biking
A Bristol woman was killed and her 25-year-old daughter was injured after being hit by a truck while riding their bicycles in Yorkville on Sunday morning.
Darlene McCue, 46, and her daughter Crispin were eastbound on Kennedy Road when they were hit from behind by a GMC pickup by Jeffrey Golden, 43, according to a press release from the Yorkville Police Department.
McCue was taken from the scene at 8:14 a.m. Sunday and rushed to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where she was pronounced dead, police said. Crispin McCue remained Tuesday in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
Golden, of the 900 block of Blue Stem Drive in Yorkville, was cited in the accident for improper lane usage, police said. They also stated a preliminary investigation does not show any signs of drug or alcohol involvement in the crash. They added speed does not seem to have been a factor either.
The incident remains under investigation.
McCue's death comes four years after her husband, Danny McCue, died of cancer. He was a 26-year veteran of the Aurora Fire Department.
"He was my partner for a number of years and he's still missed greatly," said Aurora Assistant Fire Chief John Lehman. "Darlene worked extremely hard to keep Danny's memory alive. It was a big shock to hear this."
Darlene McCue was stepmother to Cristen and Joey, 21, and mother to Alyssa, 18, and Brian 14, Lehman said.
"She was very active in giving back to the fire department, was involved in the explorer post here, and was just such a giving person," Lehman added. "Everyone's heart goes out to these children. But, thankfully they have a big support structure, a wonderful family, and I'm sure the family will be well taken care of."
