Another view of county summer jobs
This is in response to Blair Stevens' June 23 Fence Post letter (County kids have inside track to jobs). As a DuPage County summer employee for five years, I hope that Blair will be satisfied when I tell him/her that there is no employee or official at the county that shares my last name besides myself.
Just as he/she finds it laughable to hear Joe Birkett claim that the hiring process is fair, I second his/her thoughts of apparent comedy in that of all the potential nepotism taking place in this world, he/she has decided to home in on DuPage County's summer workers. All of whom make no more than 12 dollars an hour, receive no benefits, use their pay to stay afloat through a school year or get by during a rough economic time (like myself, a college graduate unable to find work), and perform hard labor that I can assure you is most likely unwanted by kids residing in many of the County's affluent suburban towns, perhaps even Mr./Ms. Stevens' own in Wheaton.
I would also like to challenge his/her children to write their own letters should they be so outraged with the hiring process, as I did not require the help of my mother to get my job when I began here at age 17.
