Illinois police promise holiday DUI patrols

Illinois State Police say they'll increase drunken driving patrols across the state over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

State police and other law enforcement agencies promise increased late-night roadside safety checks, impaired driving patrols and safety belt enforcement zones. They're calling the effort, "You Drink & Drive, You Lose."

Police cite data they say show many fatal traffic accidents occur late at night and a high percentage involve alcohol and motorists who aren't wearing seat belts.

The crackdown runs through Sunday.
