WDSRA event a rocking success
The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) recently held its first Run, ROCK! & Roll 5K at the Ross Ferraro Town Center in Carol Stream. Runners, walkers and even those whose mobility requires a wheelchair came out to support WDSRA.
We would like to thank everyone who participated. We would also like to acknowledge several community groups that played an integral part in the planning and execution of this event including the village of Carol Stream, Mayor Frank Saverino, the Carol Stream Police Department, and the Carol Stream Fire Department.
What made this 5K so unique was the live music that played along the race route. Our gratitude goes to bands "Ask You In Gray" and "Rebel Highway" and solo performers Denise Lease and Rory Newbrough for lending their musical talents. In addition, our appreciation is extended to Ron Hume, Executive Director of NCO, for photographing the event.
We would also like to thank the following businesses for their generous support: Joe Cotton Ford, Dick Pond Athletics, Cornerstone Medical, CR Promotions, Whole Foods, BelGusto's, Fast Signs of Wheaton, Swift Prepaid, Olympic Chiropractic, Greenway Endipa Printing Press, OAD Orthopedics, the Don Griffin, Jr. Family, and Prairie and Vine.
WDSRA provides quality recreational and social development opportunities for children and adults with special needs throughout western DuPage County. Funds raised through events such as the 5K help us continue to offer athletic and fine arts programs, Special Olympics and adapted sports programs, day camps, social clubs and inclusion services. We could not do that without the support of area businesses, individuals and community groups.
