No one hurt in 15-car pileup on Tri-State

A 15-car pileup in a narrow express lane on the Tri-State Tollway near Deerfield snarled traffic for miles Friday morning, police said.

No one was hurt in the accident, which occurred about 10 a.m. between Lake-Cook and Willow roads in the lone northbound express lane, state police Master Sgt. Ed Petrik said.

The crash prompted police to shut down the express lane at Dempster Street, which forced all motorists onto the local lanes. As a result, a traffic jam developed near Dempster, Petrik said.

Four of the cars involved in the crash needed to be towed away, police said. The accident scene was cleared about 11:30 a.m.

It was not immediately known if any motorists would be ticketed.
