Illinois needs concealed carry

This is in response to Professor James Webster's letter about gun violence. Yes, Professor it is time to curtail gun violence, but not in the way you suggest.

Criminals are criminals, and that means they aren't going to obey any law we pass.

So where does that leave us? It means we have to stop it at the time it occurs and also severely punish those who disobey the law.

We need a common sense law. That law is concealed carry, which 48 other states have. There have been no Wild West incidents in those states. Law enforcement that originally opposed it in those states, say it works very well and they stand behind it now.

Yes it's time to stand with the NRA and the Illinois State Rifle Association and tell our legislators it's past time and we need to have concealed carry, or if they won't vote for it, then we need to make a strong effort to vote them out of office in 2010.

Where will the next Virginia Tech happen? Not in Texas where they have approved students with licenses to carry on campus. Where will the next church shooting happen? Definitely not where the pastor in Kentucky invited his parishioners to conceal carry their weapons to church.

All these places would be bad news for anyone thinking of doing something evil with a gun. They might just lose their life in the process. That would be called Justice of the Piece.

The State Police suggest women use a key, fingernail file, or a tongue depressor when attacked on the street. Let me ask you when is the last time you seen a state trooper carrying these items in his holster?

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
