Hanover Park man shot in hand
A 26-year-old man was shot in the wrist Monday night in Hanover Park, ending a nearly monthlong respite from a string of violent attacks that began in March.
The shooting occurred around 10:50 p.m. on the 1700 block of Walnut Avenue. The victim was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. He stayed the night for observation and has since been released.
Police said in a news release Thursday the investigation is ongoing and didn't provide further details.
Hanover Park Mayor Rod Craig wouldn't say whether the shooting was gang-related, adding that police likely won't reveal more until a suspect is in custody. He promised residents that police are working to combat the recent violence, which included four homicides in late May and early June.
"Things had gotten quiet there for a while," Craig said. "We've got a watchful eye for anything that's going on and I'm hoping everything we're trying to put in place will start having an effect over a period of time."
