City may allow ice cream trucks again
LOVES PARK -- A northern Illinois community may bring back what for many people remains an enduring memory of childhood: The ice cream truck.
Loves Park, just north of Rockford, banned ice cream truck decades ago out of concern that children would run into the street when they heard them.
Now, residents Kenny and Jen Polhamus want the community outside Rockford to consider allowing the trucks return to the city. It's a move that would allow his children the experience of chasing an ice cream truck that he remembers so fondly from his own childhood.
Mayor Darryl Lindberg says the city's codes and regulations committee could study the request.
