1 hurt in Round Lake Park crash

One woman was injured when her Nissan minivan flipped over just after midnight on Hainesville Road in Round Lake Park.

Sarah Orrick, 22, of Antioch, was heading north near E. Indian Trail at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday when the van flipped in the drainage ditch along the road, Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said.

Police are not sure what caused the van to flip, but believe it may have first swerved slightly into the ditch.

"We have not been able to interview the driver of the van at this point, so it remains unclear exactly what happened," Filenko said. "The evidence shows the van went off the road a bit and she possibly tried to correct it."

Alcohol did not play a role in the accident, he said.

An officer, who also works as a paramedic for the Round Lake Area Fire Protection District, arrived one minute after the accident happened, Filenko said. That officer called for assistance, then performed preliminary first aid to Orrick.

Hainesville Road was closed in both directions for about 90 minutes while rescue crews tended to the accident.

Orrick was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with nonlife threatening injuries. Officials initially wanted her flown via Flight for Life to an area hospital. However, the medical chopper was grounded due to heavy wind conditions.
