We're the ones getting soaked

In response to the recent article in the Herald about a $400,000 grant: Grant me understanding.

The $400,000 grant to raze 14 PRIVATELY owned cabins on the Des Plaines River is yet another example of irresponsible spending to benefit a very few bozos at the expense of those who know better than to build in a flood zone.

Why does the government even consider a grant to bail out these morons or even allow this to continue year after year, sanctioning further rape of the taxpayers?

Oh, it's not that much you say, and they need our help because it happens every year? Well, add that to the billions in help given to all the others who build along the coasts and expect the rest of us to restore their property when the inevitable happens. Add that to our insurance premiums that have doubled and tripled to help pay for these few to live wherever they choose.

Perhaps it's time to let nature take its course and let these self centered individuals stew in their own juices. Perhaps it's time for big brother to say, "Well, what did you expect, dummy?"
