No reason to tone down abortion talk
Ellen Goodman implied that the pro-life movement should tone down its rhetoric in opposing abortion. She condemns the reference to abortion as murder. Ellen apparently doesn't read the papers.
Within the last few days, the Daily Herald reported that a boyfriend that murdered a mother and her "unborn child" will be prosecuted on two counts of homicide. Clearly, our judicial system considers the termination of life in the womb in this case and others like it, as murder.
However, confusion arises when a mother can terminate the life of her unborn child without penalty and yet this boyfriend may and should spend the rest of his days behind bars for doing the same thing. The decision to abort in many cases is a wrenching one but that does not change the morality of the act.
Ellen also scolds pro-lifers for calling President Obama the most pro-abortion president ever. Again, she needs to do some research. Obama stands almost alone in his support for abortion at any time for any reason.
He has opposed Parental Notification, restrictions on transporting minors across state lines to obtain an abortion, any restrictions on Partial Birth abortions as well as the protection of the life of a child born as a result of a botched abortion.
He repeats the platitude that he wants to keep abortion "safe, legal and rare". However his voting record and policies since he has been in office have clearly made the lives of those in the womb even more vulnerable.
A recent Gallup survey found that for the first time, the majority of Americans identify themselves as pro-life. Furthermore, other studies have confirmed that the younger generation is more pro-life than their parents. Richard Kaiser
