Lost respect for politicians

I have lost respect for our elected officials. I want to know how these women and men we have elected have no idea what they are doing to special needs adults and social service providers by not signing the budget.

These are elected officials who don't want to realize that they are hurting and taking support from individuals who need support in housing, employment and other services.

I have been in the social needs field for many years. Today I had to face many of my clients and tell them on July 1 they may not have the support that providers give to them. I had to face employers to tell them the support will be cut because we have politicians who don't care on who they are hurting. I had to listen to individuals cry due to the fact they won't have housing or support. I had to talk to parents whose loved ones have no support.

I would love for our wonderful Republican elected officials in DuPage who voted no - and I could list them by name - to meet with the clients that I serve and see the hurt and confusion in their eyes because they are scared of what will happen to them.

I am not worried about myself because I can go and find a new job. The only thing these politicians are doing to me is taking a job I love away, but I can survive. What are the politicians losing playing this game? I can tell you they will lose my vote the next election. But do they care? Probably not. I myself am an elected official, and I can say I honestly care what happens to all people, but I now can say that the Republicans in DuPage care more about themselves.
