Hot weather blamed for 3 deaths in Chicago area
The Cook County medical examiner's office is reporting at least three deaths related to this week's hot weather, including a 10-year-old girl.
The medical examiner's office says Keiavya Marzette died Thursday of heat stroke. Cerebral palsy was listed as a secondary cause of death.
A 59-year-old Chicago woman who was found in her home Thursday night died of heat stroke and heart problems. Temperatures reached into the 90s Thursday in the city, and the woman's home was abnormally warm.
A 32-year-old man collapsed and died Thursday while working outdoors in south suburban Crete. An autopsy found he also died from heat stroke.
Symptoms of heat stroke are high body temperature, skin that is red and dry, rapid pulse and loss of consciousness.
