1 dead in North Chicago crash
A 44-year-old North Chicago woman was killed and at least one person seriously injured in a five-vehicle crash Friday, authorities said.
The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. as the woman drove south on Route 41 at the intersection with Route 137, Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said.
"From what I heard, this lady was at fault," he said. "She went through a red light and caused the crash."
Officials did not immediately identify the woman, pending notification of her family. Keller said she died in the emergency room at Lake Forest Hospital. The preliminary cause of death is multiple trauma, although an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
At least one other person was seriously hurt and flown from the scene, Keller said. Further information on the crash was not immediately available.
