Wheeling trustee wants to lower speed limit on Milwaukee Avenue

Lower speed limit, better business?: Wheeling Trustee Dean Argiris wants to lower the speed limit on Milwaukee Avenue from 45 to 35 mph.

"Let's slow down traffic so people can see what's in this town and frequent those businesses," said Argiris at Monday's board meeting.

Village President Judy Abruscato said it's an idea worth looking into.

"It won't happen overnight that's for sure," she said. "I'm sure IDOT will make us die waiting for it."

Congrats to Wheeling High School student: Wheeling High School student Tayna Josek recently won the 2009 Fairchild challenge, an environmental competition hosted by the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Tayna participated in 10 of the 11 categories and won first place overall. More than 3,500 Chicago-area students competed in the challenge. Tayna and her Wheeling High science teacher Lisa Del-Muro were honored by the village board this week.

Tanya's prize is a two-week science summer camp. In a few weeks she'll be tracking endangered Grevy's Zebras in Kenya.
