Authorities say 5 killed in semitrailer crash in northwest Indiana
CROWN POINT, Ind. -- Authorities say a semitrailer slammed into a pickup truck that had slowed down on Interstate 65 in northwestern Indiana, killing all five people riding in the truck.
State police say the crash happened about 4 a.m. Friday near the Indiana Lake County city of Crown Point. Police say the semitrailer was cresting a hill when it came upon traffic that had slowed for a vehicle being towed from the highway.
The semi could not stop in time and hit the pickup truck, pushing it into another semi. The pickup truck was crushed and caught fire.
The Times newspaper of Munster is reporting that Jeff Wells of the Lake County coroner's office says the victims are all believed to be from the same family.
Police say the semi drivers were not injured.
