Naperville supports its veterans

I had the honor of visiting Hines VA Hospital with the Naperville VFW. We do that every month. There, I met a Vietnam Veteran from Michigan who served three tours in Vietnam. He is in the spinal cord unit. While I played his bingo card for him because he is paralyzed, we got to talking. He told me he has been married for 39 years and his wife comes to visit every weekend. I asked him how long he would be there. His answer was, "the rest of my life." He told me how much he looks forward to our visits.

I want to thank the Naperville community for their support of Veterans through the Buddy Poppy program. In these tough economic times we sold over 20,000 Poppies. Those monies are used only for veterans programs and the support of active duty troops and their families. There are no administrative costs, so all funds collected are used for Veterans helping Veterans.

Thank you for your generosity, Naperville. Once again, you showed what a great and caring community you are.
