Elgin police break up family drug house
A Tuesday evening sting at an east-side Elgin drug house resulted in the arrest of four family members, police said Wednesday afternoon.
In addition, code enforcement officers redtagged the house, in the 200 block of Michigan Street, rendering it uninhabitable.
Workers have since boarded up the building, pending additional inspections, police said.
Charles Y. Richardson, 26, of the 200 block of Michigan Street, has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
As well, Roscoe Richardson, 22, William Richardson, 19, and a 15-year-old boy, all of the same address, were all charged with possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. They were released from the Elgin jail with notices to appear in court.
Charles Richardson, meanwhile, posted a $1,000 bond Wednesday and is due in court next Thursday at the Kane County Judicial Center.
The probe continues and additional people could face charges, pending lab results and further investigation, police said.
Officers from the special investigations, major investigations and crime free housing units - as well as patrol officers - at 7:45 p.m. converged on house with a search warrant Tuesday and seized a total of 3.6 grams of cocaine, 0.6 grams of heroin and 61.8 grams of marijuana.
The bust, the culmination of an undercover drug buy operation at the house, had been weeks in the making, Swoboda said.
When police arrived on the scene, Charles Richardson threw something under a nearby parked vehicle, which police said turned out to be 0.3 grams of cocaine, documents said.
Officers also found $600 cash on Richardson. Court documents also said Richardson is currently on parole for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.
He faces up to five years in prison on the felony charge.
His other relatives could spend between six months and a year in prison, if found guilty of the misdemeanor charges.
Elgin police have made 10 drug-related arrests this month.
