Aurora man fatally shot, two injured sitting on porch

Aurora police are investigating a shooting late Wednesday that left one man dead and two others wounded.

Police said 38-year-old Donald C. Franklin was sitting on his porch on the 200 block of North Kendall Street on the city's near East side with some other men when he was shot multiple times at about 11:40 p.m. He was taken to Provena Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

Another man was taken to another area hospital with a bullet wound to his arm that is not considered to be life threatening. His condition is unknown. A third man refused treatment after being grazed by the gunfire in the neck.

Police officials said they have few leads as the men and other witnesses did not see who fired the shots or where the bullets came from. Investigators do not yet have a motive for the crime.

The Kane County Coroner's office has scheduled Franklin's autopsy for Friday.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Aurora police at (630) 801-6655. Aurora Area Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still collect the reward by calling (630) 892-1000.
