Man ticketed in '08 Barrington Hills crash
More than a year after a three-truck crash in Barrington Hills claimed the life of a Sycamore man, one of the drivers involved has been cited but escaped felony charges.
Daniel J. Drugon, 40, of Chicago, received multiple citations this week in the May 12, 2008, crash, including driving under the influence of drugs, following too close, operating a commercial vehicle with a license subject to disqualification, improper suspension, inadequate brakes and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, wear a seat belt or comply with motor carrier safety regulations, Barrington Hills police said.
But authorities have no plans to charge Drugon with a felony in the crash, and he was released after posting a $300 cash bond. He's due in Cook County Circuit Court July 31.
Richard Johnson, 58, a driver for a tire company, was killed in the crash. His pickup collided at Route 68 and Bateman Road with two gravel trucks, one of which Drugon was driving.
The Cook County state's attorney's office and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team assisted Barrington Hills police in the investigation.
