Main Street Fest in Carpentersville

NASA Education Corporation will host its primary fundraising event, "MAIN Street USA Festival," on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 at Carpenter Park, Carpentersville. The weekend event is being held in conjunction with the Carpentersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5915's Fourth of July Parade, and the village of Carpentersville and Dundee Township Park District's Fourth of July Celebration.

Moms, dads and children of all ages, will enjoy an affordable weekend of old-fashioned fun, food and games. The festival opens at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 27 with a huge community rummage sale with kiddie games and contests starting at 10 a.m. The Carpentersville VFW Post 5915 will be your hosts for the Fourth of July parade, which kicks off at noon and will go around the park, starting on the corner of Spring Street and Carpenter Boulevard, circling the park onto Lord Avenue and ending at Maple Street. Bring your lawn chairs and come early to get a good seat.

Those dog lovers wishing to dress up man's best friend, come on out to the park and participate in the NASA Educations first Dog Parade at 2:30 p.m. NASA Education and El Somberito Rojo will have something good for all taste buds.

Special appearances by Home Depot, Mad Science and the magical excellence of the Windy City Wizard will surely be a blast for the kids. At 7 p.m., everyone is encouraged to head up to the Meadowdale Shopping Center to continue the Fourth of July festivities sponsored by the Dundee Township Park District. Concerts, food and a fabulous display of fireworks will end a fun-filled day of celebration.

A pancake and sausage breakfast is offered 8 a.m. Sunday, June 28. A Mobile Electronics Competition Association sanctioned car show sponsored by Vets Total Car Care. Cars will be judged in two primary categories: Show and Shine and Sound Pressure League. Come out and show off your system. Classes include Amateur, Street, Modified, Modex and RadicalX. There is a discount for early registration; register online at www.nasaed.org or www.vetstotalcarcare.org.

There will be plenty of games and contests for kids of all ages and a bingo tent for the adults. A mystical strolling performance by LaBak the Magician, hailing all the way from Milwaukee, will be sure to leave the audience wondering. Special performances by local musicians, generous enough to donate their performances, will surely bring musical delight to the ears of many in the beer garden. On Saturday, Sam Magdal, will honor Frank Sinatra with a tribute to his music and medleys, will bring back some very memorable moments to his audience and individuals will also enjoy the musical sounds of DJ Jason Santana from Elgin. Sunday's entertainment will bring Joan Hammel's sweet vocals and phenomenal keyboard which will delight those and make the afternoon memorable and fun. Dave Byron has been playing guitar and performing for over 30 years, with performances throughout the United States, Europe and Belgium. His blazing speed and pleasing tones captivates audiences of all ages. He has mastered the styles of jazz, rock, metal, classical, blues, New Age, Celtic, Spanish and flamenco.

To end the festival's entertainment, acoustical masters Duerto Paison will amaze even the young at heart.

Parking is available around the park where designated. Also, Cross Container Corp., 400 East Maple Ave., has offered its parking lot for parking. Respect the residents that reside around the park by staying away from their driveways and out of their yards. If you see items that have been discarded, take a moment and pick them up - let's keep Carpentersville a beautiful place to live.
