RV parking regulation debate in Gurnee:

Potential regulations related to outdoor parking and storage of recreation vehicles in residential areas will be up for a public discussion at 7:30 p.m. today before Gurnee's advisory plan commission and zoning board of appeals. The meeting will be in village hall, 325 N. O'Plaine Road. Officials said the session was triggered by resident concerns that outdoor storage of RVs may negatively affect property values or endanger public health, safety or welfare. RVs include campers, boats, snowmobiles, haul trailers and personal watercraft. Gurnee's current regulations for residential property allow RVs to be parked or stored on a hard surface pad without the wheels removed. RVs cannot be used for living purposes, except for guests visiting for not more than 30 days in a calendar year. In addition to hosting tonight's workshop at village hall, Gurnee officials said they'll conduct a survey to assess residents' opinions and experiences of outdoor RV parking and storage staring in mid-July. The survey will be on the village's Web site, gurnee.il.us.

Farmers market shifted:

Localized flooding that resulted from recent heavy rain necessitated the move of the Gurnee Park District's weekly farmers market for Friday, June 26. Officials announced the market will shift from Esper Petersen Park at Old Grand Avenue and Route 132 slightly east to Viking Park on Old Grand Avenue. The market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features 35 vendors. Kristi Chirempes, the park district's cultural arts, special events and community relations manager, said she hopes the market will be able to return to the visible Petersen Park site July 10. The market wasn't scheduled to be open July 3.

New Woodland principal:

David Brown was announced Tuesday as the new principal for Woodland Elementary West school in unincorporated Gages Lake near Gurnee. The school is part of Gurnee-based Woodland Elementary District 50's system. Brown is a former District 50 assistant principal who worked elsewhere and returned to head Woodland Elementary West. Brown replaces the retiring Ann Goldbach, who was Woodland Elementary West's principal for the past six years. Goldbach worked at Woodland for 15 years. She expects to focus on hobbies such as cooking, sewing, scrapbooking and gardening during retirement. "Ann Goldbach's expertise in curriculum has helped the district move forward," said District 50 Superintendent Joy Swoboda. "She always puts children first in each decision she makes."
