Stop using taxpayers as the way out
Whether it's the U.S., Cook County, or your local, the problem with government budgeting shortfall and its subsequent quicksand remedies that only serve to bury us taxpayers further, is simple - run the office financially, like we (the plain hard working folk) run our households.
When times like the present are apparent, the budget-minded responsible homeowner pulls in the reins, cuts the fat, and does without, to meet a budget.
But of course the difference is, we have no other avenue of revenue other than what our jobs pull in (those of us still lucky enough to have one), whereas our elected officials have this seemingly unending slush fund called income or property or recreation taxes they can draw from at any time. The outright injustice is unfathomable.
To make the comparison, our humble little budgets are top-grade sirloin, and theirs is gristle-filled chopped steak, waiting to choke the life out of you. It's real simple, cut the fat.
That means eliminate these so called incentive programs, while at the same time, stop funding these special interest groups. And by all means, let's not forget the pet projects - too numerous to count. Add it all up, and millions are being wasted without so much as a thought for us, the "foot soldiers" of this economy.
The bottom line is, these elected officials must stop using the taxpayer as their personal bank account - and by the way, raising taxes might hold some water, and we might accept it easier, if you were to have paid yours.
