Another option for plantar fascitis

As someone who has dealt with chronic plantar fascitis (Health/Fitness, June 8) I had tried everything mentioned in that article with limited success. After having a kidney removed due to cancer, I was no longer able to take anti-inflammatory drugs, shots, etc.

My podiatrist suggested PRP Therapy. A small amount of your own blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge to get platelets. The platelets are then injected into the fascia under ultrasound guidance. Your platelets contain growth and healing properties and since you are using your own blood, risk is minimal. Average time for healing is three months.

After two months, my pain has diminished significantly and often there is no pain. This therapy is being done on pro athletes as well for muscle and ligament injuries. The treatment is no worse than getting a cortisone shot, although you do feel somewhat sore for a couple days.

Studies have shown this is a viable alternative for someone with plantar fascitis and does not want surgery.
