ISU football player arrested
NORMAL -- Authorities say an Illinois State University cornerback was arrested for domestic battery just before his dismissal from the football team.
Assistant Police Chief Kirk Ijams says Jason Tate was arrested early Friday at his Normal apartment. The 22-year-old Tate is was charged with two counts of domestic battery and one count of criminal damage to property. All the counts are misdemeanors.
ISU football coach Brock Spack dismissed Tate from the team Friday for violating team rules.
Tate is due back in court for a pretrial hearing July 14. It's not clear if he has an attorney, and there is no telephone number for him in Normal.
Tate also is charged in an unrelated case for allegedly driving under the influence in April.
