Drug arrest near Carpentersville school
An Algonquin man faces prison time after being caught selling marijuana near a Carpentersville school, according to court documents.
Josue Balleno, 20, of the 1300 block of North Parkview Terrace, was arrested at about 7:04 p.m. Wednesday in the 6500 block of Preston Court.
The most serious charge, possession and delivery of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, is a felony that carries a maximum five-year prison term but also offers 36 months probation as an option.
According to court documents, a Carpentersville police officer watched through binoculars in an unmarked squad car at Lindsey and Providence Drive as Balleno handed marijuana to a man in a driveway.
Police say they pulled Balleno over and found a digital scale, about a half-ounce of marijuana, a pipe and a box of plastic sandwich bags.
According to court documents, Balleno told police he was laid off a while ago and turned to selling marijuana to make money. "Man, I only sold two times today," he told them.
Balleno was arrested about 950 feet from Liberty Elementary School, 6500 Miller Road.
Bond was set at $5,000 by Judge John Noverini Thursday morning. Balleno is due in court on June 30.
