Mexico detains immigration agents, police

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico has detained seven police, immigration and anti-drug officials for alleged corruption or on suspicion of aiding drug traffickers.

The Attorney General's office says two immigration officers detained at Mexico City's international airport face trafficking charges after allegedly allowing migrants to enter a gate intended for Mexican citizens.

Three employees of the prosecutor's anti-drug office were placed under house arrest on suspicion of helping drug lord Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada.

Two police chiefs from the central cities of Silao and Apaseo el Alto are under house arrest on suspicion of aiding the La Familia drug cartel.

The detentions, announced by the Attorney General on Wednesday, did not appear to be related.
