Depp, Bale hit Chicago for the premiere of 'Public Enemies'
No word on "the woman in the red," but Johnny Depp and Christian Bale will be in Chicago tonight for the premiere of "Public Enemies."
The premiere will be held at AMC River East, 322 E. Illinois St. at 7 p.m. with an after party nearby at the River East Art Center at 425 E. Illinois. Celebrities are expected to arrive around 6 p.m.
"Public Enemies", directed by Michael Mann, is suppoosed to be the true story of the infamous criminal John Dillinger. Depp plays Dillinger.
Portions of the movie were filmed at the actual locations where the real life events took place like Little Bohemia Lodge in Manitowish, Wisconsin and the town where Dillinger was imprisoned and later escaped, Crown Point, Indiana.
Much of the movie was filmed in Chicago last spring and summer. It brought in millions of dollars for Illinois. The state's Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity says it generated $46.7 million for Illinois.
The film created more than 1,000 cast and crew jobs for workers throughout the state. And more than 1,700 residents were hired as extras.
"Public Enemies" hits theaters nationwide July 1.
The Illinois Film Office says the movie brought more money into the state than any other before.
Even Batman was no match for Dillinger. The $46.7 million the film generated for the state is more than $6 million more than what the filming of "The Dark Knight" meant to Illinois in 2007.
Anna Sage was the infamous 'woman in red', with whom Dillinger had been living in a Chicago brothel.
Chicago FBI chief Melvin Purvis was tipped off by Sage that Dillinger would be seeing the movie 'Manhatta Melodrama' at the Biograph Theater on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago. Sage wore a red dress to alert the FBI that the man she was with was Dillinger.
