Two seriously hurt in three-car crash in Elgin

Two people were flown in critical condition to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and another hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash in Elgin Monday night.

Elgin police were called to the three-vehicle crash on Randall Road just south of Hopps Road around 8:32 p.m., police said Tuesday. A 2009 Nissan Maxima driven by Kathleen Grooms, 45, of South Elgin, crossed the center line and hit a 1997 Cadillac Eldorado driven by 21-year-old Jaclyn Jankiewicz of South Elgin, police said. The crash spun the Nissan around, when it was hit in the rear by a 1994 Chevy Prism driven by 47-year-old Matthew Grabow of Elgin, police said.

All three people were transported to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Grooms and Jankiewicz were then flown to Good Samaritan Hospital with critical injuries; Grabow was treated and released from Provena St. Joseph Hospital, police said.

The crash is under investigation.
