Dist. 59 hires new curriculum expert

The Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 school board has appointed Mary Beth Niles to the position of curriculum coordinator as of July 1. She replaces Geri Cibrario who will retire June 30. Niles is curriculum director for the Mendota, IL elementary and high school district. She has been an educator for more than 20 years, much of that as a math teacher and math department coordinator in various Illinois schools.

Trader Joe's plans to expand this month

Trader Joe's at the Annex of Arlington shopping center will expand into unoccupied retail space next door, according to a news release from the Centro Properties Group. The store at the southwest corner of Arlington Heights and Rand roads in Arlington Heights, will expand its current 8,910 square foot store by another 4,050 square feet of adjacent retail space. Construction on the expanded space should commence in mid-June with an anticipated expanded-store opening in fall of 2009.

Prospect Hts. fest held all in one day

The annual Prospect Heights festival, Summerfest, will be packed into one day this year, instead of being spread over three days. Held all day at Lions Park on Saturday, June 27, events will be held on Elm Street and the north side of the Gary Morava Center.

Activities will start with the Lions Club serving a pancake breakfast, while baseball games are played on the ballfield. The afternoon will have a carnival, food vendors, beer garden, silent auction, dunk tank, dance performance, free pool swim and water games.

The 5K/10K Run, plus a Kid's 1-mile run, will kick off the evening, followed by performances from the Postadelics and Fairlanes.

Elm Street will be closed between Camp McDonald and the Library entrance on Friday morning, June 26, and will reopen to traffic on Sunday afternoon, June 28. Parking for Summerfest are: Lions Park; Old Orchard Golf Course (south parking lot) and Eisenhower and Ross/Sullivan schools.

Elk Grove Park Dist. has preschool slots

The Elk Grove Park District Preschool has openings in the 21/2- and 3-year-old fall classes. The preschool is at 225 E. Elk Grove Blvd., in Elk Grove Village. Gail's Carriage Inn holds fundraiser

Gail's Carriage Inn Restaurant & Pancake House, 1145 Elmhurst Road, Des Plaines, is having a Make-A-Wish Foundation fundraiser at 7 p.m. Friday, June 19. Cost is $50 per person, which includes dinner, two drinks, show and 50/50 raffle. Rick Elvis Saucedo will perform. Of the admission, $10 will go for the raffle, with the winner receiving half the money and the other half being donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation. Call Mike at (847) 758-9407.
