Kane gets another $6 million in stimulus money

Three major roads in Sugar Grove and a bridge over I-90 in Gilberts are among the latest Kane County transportation projects slated to receive federal stimulus funds, officials announced Tuesday.

"This funding is vital to Kane County so we can continue to create jobs and grow the economy," county board Chairwoman Karen McConnaughay said in a statement. "We are seeing the recovery at work."

In all, more than $6 million was carved out for Kane County, including $768,300 for the resurfacing of Routes 30, 56 and 47 in Sugar Grove and $670,892 for an overlay bridge deck on Route 72 over I-90 in Gilberts. Also on tap is the resurfacing of Route 30 from Route 47 to Jericho Road at a cost of about $1 million.

The projects, selected by the Illinois Department of Transportation, were announced by Congressman Bill Foster, a Batavia Democrat, whose 14th District includes parts of Kane, DuPage, DeKalb, Kendall and Whiteside counties.

Some $2.5 million in various road projects will go to the DuPage County portion of the 14th District.

The congressman's office said work contracts have already been awarded, and the projects should start soon.

"The funding ... will allow vital transportation projects to move forward, and will create jobs for people throughout the 14th District," Foster said in a news release.

In March, about $10 million in stimulus money was announced for the 14th District, which will have received about $26 million in total with the latest round of funding.
