New fire station in Hoffman:

Hoffman Estates officials gathered Monday to dedicate the opening of the new Fire Station No. 24 on the village's west side. A ceremony was attended by village board members at the station, 5775 Beacon Pointe. The station is a replacement for the one at Prairie Stone Business Park. The $6.25 million station was paid for with a bond issue in spring 2008.

Hoffman cops reduce posts:

The Hoffman Estates board on Monday voted on to amend its village code to decrease the number of police administrators. No one was demoted or has left the department, as village officials said the move was a way for the village to save money in the future if an administrator chose to leave the department. The action decreased the number of lieutenants or assistant chiefs from six to five.

Crespo hosting public forum:

State Rep. Fred Crespo will host a town-hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. June 23, at Hoffman Estates Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road. The public meeting will address the latest legislative session in Springfield and include a question-and-answer session. RSVP by calling Crespo's office at (630) 372-3340.

Arlington market opens:

The Arlington Heights Farmers Market opens Saturday, June 20, on Eastman Street between Arlington Heights Road and Evergreen Avenue. It will run from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 24. More than 20 vendors from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan will sell food and food-related products. New products this year include dry pastas, sauces, focaccias, cookies, mushrooms and fruit butters. And yes, the knife sharpener will be there. Finnerty fundraiser:

Mindful Meals, 250 N. Evergreen Ave., Arlington Heights, plans a fundraiser for the Finnerty children Thursday and Friday, June 18-19. Customers can request that a percentage of any purchase go to the trust fund. Or they can make a straight donation or purchase a "Westage School Recipe Book and Meal Planner" for $15 with all proceeds above costs going to the trust. Checks can be made payable to "Jennifer Murphy, guardian of the Finnerty children." It is administered by Village Bank & Trust, 311 S. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL, 60005.

Musical fundraiser:

The Bonesetters will play acoustic blues at a benefit for the Finnerty children at the Tuscan Market, 141 W. Wing St., Arlington Heights, from 9-11 p.m. June 27. All proceeds for the band will be donated. Call Kevin O'Hara at (847) 345-2974.
