Toast the crosstown series with CaberLee and Buehrlot
Before they renew their crosstown baseball rivalry with the Cubs and White Sox today, Derrek Lee and Mark Buehrle will be toasting each with wines - for charity.
The Cubs first baseman and Sox pitching ace are lending their names to varietals through the Massachusetts-based Charity Wines. They'll be at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse, 25 E. Ohio St., Chicago, at noon today to pop the corks on the release of CaberLee and Buehrlot before the teams play later on at 7 tonight at Wrigley Field.
Both wines are from vineyards in San Martin, Calif. Sales of Lee's CaberLee, made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, will benefit his 1st Touch Foundation, dedicated to aiding youths, while Buehrlot, consisting of course of merlot, will benefit the Hope Rescues animal shelter in Alton.
Charity Wines has made a business out of connecting famous athletes with charitable causes through specialty wines. It previously released Ernie Banks' 512 chardonnay as part of its 500 Home Run Club series from its "Longball Cellars," focusing on baseball stars.
CaberLee and Buehrlot are expected to be available at fine wine vendors like Binny's and Sam's for about $14 a bottle. Or they can be ordered online through charitywines.com.
