Lake County briefs

District 46 community forum:

Grayslake Elementary District 46 board members will host an informal community forum at 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 or 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 17. The event will be at Grayslake Middle School, off Route 83 just north of Center Street. Several District 46 parents have pushed for the forum so elected board members can answer their questions about spending of public money, recent budget cuts, future projected deficits and other issues. Regular District 46 board meetings do not provide an opportunity for elected officials and administrators to discuss issues with taxpayers. District 46 Superintendent Ellen Correll and other top administrators are scheduled to attend Wednesday night's forum. Organizers say children are welcome. Volunteers will be on hand to read to the children or allow them to color so their parents can participate in the forum.

Newton to resign:

Veteran Lake County Board member Pam Newton is expected to announce her resignation today so that she can take a job as Hawthorn Woods' chief operating officer. Newton, a Long Grove Republican, said last month she planned to take the village post but hasn't formally quit her county job. If she resigns, Newton's last regular board meeting will be today, said county board Chairwoman Suzi Schmidt. It'll be up to Schmidt to recommend a replacement for Newton. The full board must vote on that recommendation for the eventual successor to take office.
